RIP Yahoo Messenger
The once popular messaging service-Yahoo Messenger is being put to rest on July 17, 2018. After losing out to new and modern services like, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Facebook Messenger, and failed resurrection attempts the company is logging it off. Users get six months to download their chat history. Here’s a brief history of Messenger’s 20-year-run. The archaic messaging app was launched as Yahoo Pager on March 9, 1998. It was rebranded Yahoo Messenger on June 21, 1999. Yahoo Messenger: The first real global messaging app Yahoo Messenger was one of the first messaging applications to make waves in an age of dial-up connections and broadband speeds that just wouldn’t go beyond 1 Mbps. When cyber cafes mushroomed in metros and smaller towns in the early 2000s, youngsters spent hours chatting through the messaging application. However, the application was quickly forgotten in the smartphone era, with youngsters starting to lean toward
