Raspberry Pi Foundation Announces Merger With Coding School, CoderDojo

Image
Raspberry Pi Foundation , the company behind the nifty credit-card sized single-board computers, on Friday announced that they are joining hands with CoderDojo Foundation, an organisation helping kids learn coding, to form an entity that will be aimed at providing many more young people across the world with new ways to find new coding opportunities. For the uninitiated, Raspberry Pi Foundation started a technological revolution with the introduction of inexpensive miniature computers fixed on a single chipboard. Many tech enthusiasts and coders have endlessly used them to make DIY computers, in addition to support from major companies like  Google . It also runs a network of coding clubs for kids aged between 9 to 13, which is attended by over 150,000 kids per week. Coming to CoderDojo, it is an Ireland-based organisation that teaches schoolchildren coding skills. It also promotes volunteer-run programming clubs for kids aged between 7 to 17 years. The company sa...

Sony Ends PS3 Production in Japan

Image
It seems that the PS3 is finally on its way out. The 500GB PS3 - which was, until a couple of months ago, the only variant in production in Japan has ended its production run. This comes via the official PlayStation Japan website that lists the  PS3 500GB shipments  as “ended” according to a translation from gaming blog Gematsu. Earlier in the year, Sony's site stated that “shipments are scheduled to end soon” for the 500GB PS3, which was at the time the only remaining PS3 in production in Japan. As for India, several retailers speaking to Gadgets 360 have confirmed that the 500GB PS3 has been unavailable for the better part of a year, while the 12GB variant has also been tough to get a hold of. “We haven’t received any PS3 stock since November, and the demand hasn’t been there either. Not for the console nor the games,” says an independent game store owner based in Delhi. What’s more is sources in the supply chain claim that Sony India’s fo...

How to Run full version of Android Marshmallow on your PC without emulators

Image
Video By: Android With Android running on almost 2 million devices, there are many users who want to extend the capability of having a similar experience of Android on their PC or laptop. Emulators like BlueStacks have helped PC users to download and install Android apps directly to their systems. But, what if you could use Android like an everyday operating system on your PC or laptop without an emulator? What if you could breathe new life into your old computer with the Android Marshmallow? You can do that with Remix OS. Remix OS is based on the native Android Marshmallow coding, but with a surprising twist. The OS allows you to run Android and its apps like a desktop OS. Meaning you can run multiple apps in the form of windows. You can continue using the mouse and keyboard for navigation across the OS, too. Important note: It is recommended that you install Remix OS on an older machine. The OS is updated regularly for bug fixes and is not devoid of issues. The commu...

New NASA technology to help drones land safely

Image
NASA scientists have developed a new software that will help drones automatically spot the best places to crash-land in case of an emergency, without hurting anyone on the ground. Increasing numbers of drones in the sky raises the risk to people and property below being hit when these unmanned aerial vehicles develop mechanical problems. Now, Patricia Glaab, an aerospace technologist at NASA Langley Research Centre in the US, and colleagues have developed a crash-landing software for drones. During eight test flights, the technology successfully spotted safer landing sites such as swamps or drainage ditches to crash instead of cars or people on the ground, Glaab said. The software links on-board drone components like batteries and motors to monitor their health, ‘Fortune.com’ reported. The technology identifies when something on the drone goes wrong, and puts the aerial vehicles in a crash-landing mode. When triggered, the software checks a pre-installed data...

Three Simple Ways to Get ‘Cash’ and Other Rewards From Google

Image
Google is built around data - and it probably knows a lot more about you than you think it goes. The good part about all this is that Google offers a lot of rewards to people who will volunteer data that it finds useful. This information isn't just used to advertise to you either - instead, sometimes Google wants data from users to build more detailed offerings that help all users. But if you're in college and want to get a little extra cash to flaunt with your friends, there are limited options, and Google is definitely the most reputed company around in this field. So if you'd like to line up for some rewards, here are three different ways to get some cash out of Google. 1. Google Opinion Rewards Google Opinion Rewards launched in India only last week, and it pays users in Google Play credits. Not so great if you're looking for extra talk-time to make calls, but if you've been eyeing a cool new Android game but don't want to put the cash down for it, t...

Google linking online and offline worlds in new ad challenge

Image
Google  is testing a way to tie online ads to brick-and-mortar store purchases, a move whetting marketing appetites while fueling privacy worries. A product called " Google Attribution " was unveiled at a marketing conference this month in San Francisco by the internet giant. Google has long been able to determine when users click on an ads and make a purchase, but linking online and offline habits takes its analytics a step further. Google senior vice president Sridhar Ramaswamy, who announced that Attribution is in test mode with a limited number of partners and will be rolled out to more advertisers in coming weeks, touted the tool as being able to answer the long-challenging question of whether marketing campaigns are working. "Google Attribution makes it possible for every marketer to measure the impact of their marketing across devices and across channels," Ramaswamy said. "Data-driven attribution uses machine learning to determine how much cre...

Samsung woos iPhone users with 2017 Gear 360 camera

Image
video by:  cnet Regardless of where you fall on value of 360-degree cameras on the whole, Samsung made one of the best consumer models last year, the Gear 360. That said, its competition was by no means great and the electronics giant had a fair amount of room for improvement -- almost all of which it tackles with the 2017 version, starting with the design. Gone is the giant eyeball-looking body and in its place is a much smaller camera. The dual fish-eye lenses are still here, but they're considerably smaller and each has a 8.4-megapixel sensor behind them (the same sensors used in the  Galaxy S8   ( $750.00 at T-Mobile USA ) ). Now the thing can actually comfortably fit in a pants pocket. Using it is better, too, since Samsung tucked the battery into a handle built as part of the camera body. You lose the ability to swap batteries, but the built-in one will last up to two hours shooting in 2K resolution and charges via its USB-C port. Content is...
